Q Option 1: After reading Chapter 17 on Sourcing, research the advantages and disadvantages of offshoring and onshoring, particularly as it relates to some of the concepts covered in this class such as quality, capacity, or process management. Do not address the politics, personal views about offshoring vs. onshoring, or the economics to the U.S. or any state or city. This is all about operations decisions and how one or the other of the choices impacts process, quality, capacity, and inventory. Be creative in your search terms to come up with good reference material. Be sure you briefly define each term in your answer somewhere. Your answer should be the equivalent of a full page typed (single space) but could be longer. You should use at least 2-3 reference materials for your answer.

Sourcing of production, can be defined as the part of the strategic management, where the decision makers decide whether the product, part of the process or service should be outsourced or insourced by the firm. The cost of the sourcing and the types of the products are the two most notable factors, based on which the decision makers choose the process of sourcing. Sometimes it will be cheaper to produce in a different geographic location due to a cheaper labor or a cheaper technology (Schroeder, n.d.). Offshoring and onshoring are the two major types of sourcing.
